A Finnish person will have to pay a large compensation after making copyright-protected song lyrics available on the Internet.
Kopiosto, a Finnish copyright organisation, has said that it has never before encountered such a large-scale use of protected material online. The organisation would have taken the person to court, but an agreement for compensation has been reached, according to director Jukka-Pekka Timonen. The lyrics were made into a sort of songbook online, reported STT-FNB, a Finnish news service. The material was not used online with the intention of making money.
In the past, Kopiosto has only found individual song lyrics online and has then been content with asking the person who has put it there to remove it.
