A new report by market information company Taylor Nelson Sofres shows that online shopping is increasing in the UK.
The survey has found that 9% of people have shopped online in the last four weeks, compared to only 6% in 2001 for the same period. Of Internet users almost 25% have shopped online and 15% intend to in the next six months.
The increase in shoppers is attributed to the increase in Internet users according to the report, which also says that this shows potential for growth in the e-commerce market.
Security is still a problem however, with almost a third of the population who have not shopped online not doing so because of security issues, such as giving out credit card details. Buying goods in a shop was seen as more secure than purchasing them online by 28% of all those questioned.
Interviews were taken with 42,238 people from 37 countries for the survey.
