Internet message system developer Tumbleweed Communications Corp has brought a patent lawsuit against Internet portal Yahoo! Inc.

Tumbleweed alleges that Yahoo! is infringing on two patents that detail a way to access information on a web site by clicking on a link in an e-mail. Specifically, the Yahoo! Greetings service that lets users send personal greeting cards is, according to Tumbleweed, in violation of two patents awarded in 1998 and 2001. The company is asking for damages and an order barring Yahoo! from further patent infringement.

Two similar court cases have been brought against Hallmark Cards Inc and American Greetings Corp in the past that resulted in both companies agreeing to pay an undisclosed licensing fee to Tumbleweed.
