Macintosh developer Apple Computer Corp has launched its iTunes Music Store for US consumers wanting to purchase music online.

The new service lets users burn the tracks they have downloaded onto a CD or transfer them on to an iPod device. The iTunes service also allows users to utilise the songs in any application on the Mac such as iPhoto, iMovie and iDVD.

Apple claims that the iTunes Music Store offers over 200,000 tracks from music companies such as BMG, EMI, Sony Music Entertainment, Universal and Warner.

Each song that is downloaded costs the user USD0.99.
