Sales of e-books have risen 64% year-on-year in the third quarter of 2003, according to Open eBook Forum, with the value of sales rising 37% from USD1.9m to USD2.6m.
It is the first time that e-book unit sales have exceeded a million in the first three quarters of a year. This is especially impressive due to the departure of Barnesandnoble.com and Gemstar from the e-book market place, the executive director of the eBook Forum said.
The number of e-books published has also risen when compared to the same quarter in 2002, with 2,159 published in 2003, up from 1,241 in 2002, reports Internet Retailer.
