The London Internet Exchange (LINX), which manages over 90% of the UK's Internet traffic, has announced that British Internet usage peaked at 22 Gbit/second on Christmas Day compared to 15 Gbit/second last Christmas.
An increase in online gift shopping, the sending of Christmas e-card greetings and an upturn in routine business Internet usage over the Christmas season are said to responsible for the increase in traffic.
Peak figures during Christmas in 2001 were 8 Gbit/second on Christmas Day meaning that traffic has increased almost three-fold in the last two years.
