Market intelligence and advisory firm IDC has observed that online gaming is more popular than Internet shopping in the Asia-Pacific region.
The biggest difference in the region was found to be in China where 43% of all Internet users questioned said that they played games online compared to just 16% that used the Internet for shopping.
A spokesperson for the company said that the results show that online gaming can be a market driver for broadband adoption and that in Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore broadband penetration is high among online gamers.
The survey polled 3,600 Internet users in six Asian countries.
