A Norwegian man has been fined for operating an online music-swapping service.
The web site, which was set up in 2001, provided direct links to sources of illegal MP3 music files on the Internet. It was reportedly modelled on Napster.
The district court in Lillehammer, Norway ruled that the man had violated copyright law by providing the links. He was ordered to pay NOK100,000 to music companies Sony, EMI and Universal.
One Norwegian krone (NOK) is worth approximately 0.09 British pounds (GBP).
