Online resources for supporting US troops revealed

The US Department of Defense and volunteer organisation the USA Freedom Corps have joined forces to launch the On The Home Front online resource for people wanting to support US troops, their families and their communities.

Both organisations have issued a list of web sites that can be used to show support for US troops instead of sending letters or care packages to deployed positions.

These include Operation Dear Abby at http://anyservicemember.navy.mil which lets visitors send e-mail messages to deployed troops, Defend America at http://defendamerica.mil/nmam.html for sending thankyou cards and Operation USA Care Package at http://www.usocares.org.home where people can contribute to the purchase of a care package of items such as sunscreen, disposable cameras, prepaid calling cards and toiletries.
