The UK Government has announced that a number of pubs located in rural areas have begun to install new Internet and IT facilities so that they can offer their customers the chance to access online information.

Four pubs in Northumberland and five in Dorset are now part of the country's network of UK Online centres. Training on the computers and other Internet equipment is provided by a local facilitator that is based in the location.

A spokesperson for the UK Government said that people that cannot normally obtain access to the Internet can use the broadband links, computers, printers and web cams in the pubs.
