Hitwise records increase in traffic to UK shopping sites

Internet measurement services provider Hitwise has revealed that traffic to shopping web sites in the UK has reached its highest point of the year so far.
The initial run-up to Christmas has seen the retail sector accounting for 8.06% of all online traffic during September, which represents a 44% increase in market share to shopping sites compared with the same period last year, according to Hitwise.
Shopping categories that have seen a large increase in market share in the last 12 months include sites for auctions, apparel & accessories and flowers & gifts.
The most popular shopping web site in September 2003 was online auction site eBay.
