London Internet Exchange reports record UK Christmas traffic

Figures released by the London Internet Exchange (LINX) have revealed that UK Internet traffic over Christmas Day and Boxing Day hit an all-time high in 2004.
Data traffic levels recorded by LINX over the festive weekend were as high as a normal weekend, peaking at around 50Gb/s on Boxing Day and 45Gb/s on Christmas Day itself. the figures were almost double those recorded on the same two days in 2003.
A spokesperson for LINX said that it was impossible to tell what people were doing on the Internet over the two days but it's likely that with more and more households connected to the Internet that people were sending Christmas e-mails, buying gifts or using Internet-based games.
