A new scheme has been introduced in England that will see a number of libraries offer free wireless Internet access.
The ten rural libraries that are taking part in the initiative could begin to lend laptops out to visitors so they can browse the Internet. Users can also provide their own equipment so they can access the Internet wirelessly at broadband speeds on their own laptop or other handheld device.
Should the project be successful it may be rolled out to all libraries in England, according to the UK Government.
To begin with a total of GBP60,000 will be given to the ten rural libraries to install fixed wireless equipment in their premises.
