Music trade group the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) has announced that it has brought court proceedings against a number of individuals that are accused of illegal file-sharing.
In total, 247 individuals from Italy, Germany, Denmark and Canada will be prosecuted for distributing copyrighted material online. The IFPI said that those that are being prosecuted placed hundreds or thousands of tracks on Internet file-sharing services such as KaZaA and WinMX for other users to download.
The music industry claimed that the availability of free music on the Internet has contributed to a five-year slide in music sales.
