ICANN to automate domain registration process

ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, has reportedly decided to use an automatic service for the registration of domain names.
The new rules will make it easier to register domain names that someone else may have a claim to, according to the Norwegian IT newspaper IT Avisen. This is because stars, organisations and societies that claim a right to a certain domain name have five days to report this, and after that period the domain name will be registered if it is technically available for registration.
The right to issue complaints will however remain and the options will be to ICANN or WIPO, a United Nations organisation.
