The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) has announced its support of two new publications that spell out new Internet standards to help the continued development of the Internet.

The publications - RFC 3986, STD 66 Uniform Resource Identifier (URI): Generic Syntax and RFC 3987 Internationalized Resource Identifiers (IRIs) - cover the design, syntax and resolution of URIs, as well as security considerations, normalization and comparison and the importance and guidelines of IRIs, respectively.

The W3C was created to help standardise Internet technology and ensure the interoperability of technology developed to take the Internet forward.
