A service for content providers using the imminent i-mode platform has been unveiled by Volantis, an Intelligent Content Adaption solutions provider.
According to Volantis, its i-mode Express for O2 service is for brands seeking to deliver mobile services through the i-mode platform from O2, a mobile services provider. i-mode is said to provide a richer user interface than WAP sites, with strict style guidelines, enhanced Java implementation and subscription-based billing. It is understood to offer the same security encryption as fixed Internet for secure sites such as banking, and the browser provides automatic go-back functions.
i-mode is reported to have 45m global users and is said to offer the UK the closest to true Internet access available through mobile services. Volantis said its i-mode Express for O2 service will start later this year in the UK and Ireland and in Spring 2006 in Germany and FT.com is said to be the first customer to sign up for the new package.
