Datamonitor, an independent market analyst, has predicted a rise in revenues for e-mail filtering solutions as enterprises worldwide take steps to protect their communications infrastructure.

The company's research expects this market to grow from USD1.1bn in 2004 to USD2.87bn in 2008, a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 26%.

Of this market, which includes anti-virus for e-mail, anti-spam and traditional content filtering technologies, Datamonitor expects software solutions, which accounted for 60% of revenues in 2004, to decline to 42% by 2008 as hardware and services-based business models advance.

The e-mail filtering services market will be the fastest growing in terms of revenues, growing at a CAGR of 44% from USD223m in 2004 to USD958m by year-end 2008, according to Datamonitor.
