Fibernet Group plc (LSE:FIB), a network service provider, has announced that it has won the contract to provide a bespoke optical network service to communications company Cable & Wireless.
According to the company, the service is implemented to provide a major Cable & Wireless broadcast customer in locations across Scotland with enhanced bandwidth and service resilience. The dedicated 10Gb optical national network service upgrade will reportedly allow the customer to deal with large volumes of data traffic generated by the exchange of next-generation multimedia content.
The network designed for Cable & Wireless takes advantage of a recent national network upgrade by Fibernet to create a UK-wide 1.6Tb capacity network (160x10Gb) which has reduced unit bandwidth costs, the company claims.
No financial details of the contract were disclosed.
