Nareos unveils legal p2p mobile service

Internet Business News,  Jan 23, 2006

INTERNET BUSINESS NEWS-(C)1995-2006 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

PeerBox, a legal mobile peer-to-peer (p2p) file sharing service, has been unveiled by Nareos, a digital content commerce solutions provider.

The service enables users to search for music and download songs from p2p file sharing networks such as Gnutella and eDonkey 2000. It uses on-air and speech recognition to identify music, speech-assisted search and an audio fingerprinting component to offer copyrighted songs only as paid downloads.

Users type or 'speak' a music search query on their mobile to search in p2p networks for a title. They can also hold their handset to music, with the artist, album and song information appearing on the PeerBox screen after 15 seconds, with a download price.

The user's credit card or mobile phone bill will be charged for the service, which is available as a pay-per-download or subscription service. Alongside the copyrighted material, for which payment is required, the p2p networks are also used by artists promoting their music and these songs can be downloaded free of charge.

The application will shortly be available for download from Nareo's website at www.nareos.com.
