Qwest Communications International Inc (NYSE: Q), a provider of broadband, video and voice solutions to the US government, announced on Thursday (20 December) that the company is continuing its support of the North American Aerospace Defence Command's (NORAD) mission of aerospace warning and control, as it tracks Santa Claus during his annual flight around the world in 2007, starting from 24 December.
The company will provide the voice network for the NORAD Tracks Santa (NTS) Operations Centre in preparation for Santa's journey from the North Pole on 24 December. This will complement top US and Canadian military technology, including satellite, radar and fighter jets, Qwest said.
NORAD provides aerospace security for North America throughout the year.
On Christmas Eve, NORAD reportedly performs the additional mission of tracking Santa around the world and has been doing so since NORAD began 1955.
In the Spirit of Service, Qwest will provide the voice network for NTS so children of all ages can call for real-time tracking information on Santa Claus during his important flight. The program is managed by NORAD and US Northern Command Public Affairs Office at Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado, US.
