Hitwise reports increase in visits to Zune.net on Christmas Day

Hitwise, an online competitive intelligence service, announced on Friday (28 December) that the market share of visits to the Zune website increased by 299% on Christmas Day 2007 (25 December, 2007) compared to Christmas Day 2006 as new owners of Zune music player from Microsoft Corp visited the website to sign up for a new account and download software.
In addition, the market share of visits to Zune.net showed an increase of 392% when comparing 25 December 2007 to 24 December 2007.
Hitwise revealed that iTunes remained the predominant download site with a market share over six times larger than Zune.net. The total market share of visits for Zune.net reached 0.09% on 25 December, as compared to the market share of visits to iTunes, which reached 0.68%.
In addition, the market share of visits to the iTunes website increased 339% on 25 December, 2007, from 24 December, 2007, as new iPod owners went online to download iTunes. The Apple Store was the ninth most visited website in the Hitwise Retail Index on Christmas Day 2007 and the market share of visits to Apple Store showed an increase of 169% when comparing 25 December, 2007, to 24 December, 2007, Hitwise reported.
