Bloxx web filtering technology implemented by High School of Glasgow

Bloxx, an enterprise web filtering company, announced on Thursday (21 February) that The High School of Glasgow, UK, has deployed Bloxx web filtering technology to monitor pupil and staff online activity and to provide enhanced security for its IT network.

According to the company, the decision to replace the school's existing web filtering solution from security solutions provider SurfControl (LSE:SRF) with Bloxx Tru-View Technology is a result of IT management's concerns that it was becoming difficult to protect the students from accessing offensive or inappropriate web material while at school.

SurfControl's reliance on lists of URLs to determine which sites were subject to filtering enabled pupils to attempt and in some cases succeed in bypassing the filtering system through the use of anonymous proxies, claimed the school's Network Manager.

Bloxx web filtering reportedly combines conventional tools with new identification methods and analysis technologies, which can identify and block websites quicker and more accurately than web filters that rely only on manual URL classification and keyword scoring. In addition, the solution can detect and block the majority of newly created anonymous proxy sites, reducing the workload of IT staff and increasing protection against anonymous proxies.

No financial details were disclosed.
