Gibson Guitar takes occupancy on Second Life Island

Gibson Guitar Corporation (Gibson), a musical instrument manufacturer founded in Kalamazoo, Michigan in 1894 and headquartered in Nashville since 1984, will launch its Second Life presence with an inaugural concert by Bob Welch, the former Fleetwood Mac vocalist and guitarist.
Second Life is a virtual reality (VR) created and hosted by Linden Labs in which the 'inhabitants' can create and manipulate their environment, including interacting with others. Gibson are the latest commercial organisation to embrace Second Life as a marketing opportunity, but they claim to be the first major musical manufacturer to establish an official island in the VR world.
The Gibson Island will officially launch at 08:00 SL (Second Life) time on 16 July with the concert starting at 18:00 SL time the same day.
Bob Welch's avatar will appear on stage with other celebrity musicians with an entire day of exclusive performances.
Around 14 million users have registered with Second Life since it opened in 2003.
