ActiveScan 2.0 online scanner introduced by Panda

Panda Software, a provider of integrated security solutions, has launched ActiveScan 2.0 to respond to the growing complexity of modular-built malware.

The new breed of intelligent malware such as rootkits is currently considered the biggest malware threat on the Internet and is expected to cause significant malicious damage over the coming months. The new Panda scanner is thought to be the strongest in the security market, according to AV.Test.org. The organisation recently carried out dedicated research into anti-stealth preventables and Panda ActiveScan 2.0 has been the best web-based scanner for detecting rootkits on Windows XP, the company said.

According to the company, Panda's ActiveScan 2.0 is based around its Collective Intelligence infrastructure, which receives malware information directly from the user community. The new system collects data samples from the Internet 'cloud' and stores behavioural patterns of programs, file traces, and new malware samples gathered worldwide. The data is then automatically analysed, classified and correlated with PandaLabs' malware knowledge base. In the event of a new malware threat, the system generates the vaccines needed to neutralise the code and allows for an immediate disinfection of all detected malware.

Panda ActiveScan 2.0 is compatible with all antivirus programs in the AV market, and can also be used with Internet Explorer and Firefox. The scanner is available free of charge at http://www.infectedornot.com.
