A partnership has been formed by Google Inc (Nasdaq:GOOG), an Internet search engine company, and Sprint Nextel, a provider of wireless and wireline communications services, intended to more deeply integrate Google applications and services into the mobile experience of Sprint customer.
Google said it will become Sprint's preferred mobile search provider as part of the agreement, with Sprint users gaining easier access to Google Maps for mobile and YouTube.
The partnership offers Sprint customers Google mobile search, providing web search and local search on the Sprint portal on current web-enabled Sprint phones and new devices and Google Maps for mobile, an application enabling users to view maps and satellite imagery, find local businesses, obtain driving directions and view real-time traffic information.
In addition, millions of YouTube videos will be accessible from certain new Sprint handsets, along with the user's favourites, videos and channels, while users will also benefit from location data for Google search and Google Maps for mobile.
The companies will continue to explore ways to improve the mobile experience for users and introduce more application choices, in the future.
