Online Newsletter, Dec, 2000
Ovid Technologies has reached an agreement with Harvard Medical School and the Countway Library of Medicine to provide content and technology for the core Digital Library, a new electronic resource the school is providing for the entire Harvard medical community. The one-year pilot project, funded by Harvard president Neil Rudenstine, features Ovid's search and retrieval system, along with additional electronic resources.
"The fundamental idea behind the core Digital Library is to provide a common set of information resources for students with clinical assignments in Harvard Medical School's 17 affiliated teaching hospitals and for faculty with joint appointments in several hospitals," said Judith Messerle, Countway librarian.

"A key component of the core Digital Library is Ovid's aggregated, inter-linked bibliographic databases, full text, and other resources in its search and retrieval system," she said.
In the meantime, Ovid has recently announced that it will add support for CrossRef to its Ovid OpenLinks (tm) by year end. CrossRef was formed in 1999 by a group of scientific, technical, and medical (STM) publishers to support reference linking to participating publisher's full text content. Membership currently includes 50 STM publishers. Ovid's highly successful flagship product, Journals@Ovid contains over 400 integrated and searchable journals from 60 publishers. Journals@Ovid content is linked from both Ovid's bibliographic databases and from the references within the article. Nearly 10 million links exist within the Ovid system, linking full text to other full text and within citation databases. Ovid's OpenLinks features links to over 2,000 full text journals at remote publishers' sites. Ovid's CrossRef implementation will add thousands of additional OpenLinks titles that journal subscribers can select and link from Ovid bibliographic databases. The initial CrossRef will include links to Elsevier titles, with other links to follow such as those for John Wiley & Sons, Blackwell Science, Kluwer Academic, and others.
