Thomson & Thomson Offers Internet Domain Name Searching

Online Newsletter, Jan, 2000

Thomson & Thomson (North Quincy, MA) is the only trademark research firm to offer a secured agreement enabling the company to report on Internet domain name registrations from all ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) accredited registrars.

Current and complete data on domain name activity has become a key feature of a fully researched trademark. T&T has noted that current statistics reveal an average of over 15,000 new domain names registered worldwide each day.

T&T company president Jay Gast commented "The need for the most current information is essential for a company to properly audit their corporate and product names, as in many cases trademarks have been used as domain names."

According to 'Dow Jones Business News' (October 28, 1999), domain name registration activity has increased significantly in the last year with 1.5 million new registrations in ".com", ".net", and ".org" added during the third quarter, for a current total of 8 million. The article reported that analysts expect the number of Internet domain names to rise to 100 million within a few years.

T&T offers domain name searches as part of several trademark research reports, and also as a stand-alone report.

T&T clients can also use the company's SAEGIS online service for their own searching.
