Initiative Solves Inter-Bank Capital Payment Clearance - Sybase technologies for People's Bank of China
Online Product News, April 1, 2002
Sybase, Inc., e-Business infrastructure provider, has announced that the People's Bank of China (PBOC) has selected Sybase's database and application development tools for its China National Advanced Payment System (CNAPS). This initiative will signify a milestone in resolving the long-existing problem of inter-bank capital payment clearance and settlement, and illustrates Sybase's leadership position in today's global financial industry.
"The implementation of CNAPS is the best practical measure for financial institutions preparing for the World Trade Organization challenge," said Chen Jing, general director of People's Bank of China's Science Department. "Sybase's globally recognized database management technology, the high performance of its relational database management system and strong capabilities of its development tools will provide a strong core support for the Bank's modern payment system. In addition, its comprehensive professional services and implementation capabilities are as equally impressive."
CNAPS, made up of a large-sum, real-time payment network and a small-sum, volume payment network, will access 8,964 commercial banks and nodes across 324 cities in China. This system is planned to link to the PBOC's Clearing Center, commercial, policy, joint-stocks and foreign banks, as well as other financial institutions. The initiative will provide a more efficient turnover of funds between banks and reduce the time for delivery, thus offering strong operational advantages for the management of PBOC's modern payment system.
PBOC selected several Sybase technologies -- including Adaptive Server(R) Enterprise (ASE), PowerBuilder(R) and PowerDesigner(R) -- to support this comprehensive application.
Sybase's flagship product, ASE, supports the heavy data processing needs of traditional OLTP applications and the complex data manipulation needs of decision support systems, while providing the flexibility, scalability, performance and security features needed to support new, e-Business applications. Sybase's commitment to ASE's openness, reliability, integration and performance gives PBOC a robust choice for managing its transaction-intensive applications and mission-critical data.
PowerBuilder is an industry-leading, integrated application development environment for e-Business and client/server solutions. It manages CNAPS' demands for both the application development and infrastructure support of business applications. PowerBuilder's powerful features speed up the development of n-tier, Web and client/server enterprise applications and allow developers to build Web sites and write Web applications within the PowerBuilder IDE.
As a complete life-cycle analysis and modeling solution, PowerDesigner provides a fast and convenient way to develop complex applications. PowerDesigner enables PBOC's analysts, designers, developers and system managers to improve communications and productivity throughout the development cycle, from business analysis, systems analysis and design through database schema and business object generation. It supports both traditional and emerging modeling techniques -- including business process models, UML models and entity/relationship models -- within one graphically-rich, repository-backed environment.
"This new customer win demonstrates Sybase's strength in providing the People's Bank of China with leading database software infrastructure and implementation expertise," said Mr. Danny Fung, managing director of Sybase Software (China) Ltd. "It has also laid a solid foundation for Sybase to grow its business across a broad array of industries in China in 2002."
