March Fairchild Publications will launch Vitals, a title targeted at upscale men who have an interest in shopping. The first incarnation of Vitals ran in the September issue of Details as an insert. RATE BASE/FREQUENCY CHANGES figure from Brinsights and Soho Publishing increased its rate base as of its November issue, from 300,000 (at its September launch) to 450,000...In January, Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia's Martha Stewart Living will decrease its rate base, from 2.3 million to 1.8 million...Men's Health from Rodale will increase its rate base, from 1.625 million to 1.65 million, as of the January issue...Conde Nast's Teen Vogue will increase rate base in February, from 450,000 to 500,000.

RELAUNCHES/REDESIGNS The October issue of Time Inc's Teen People featured a new design, offering readers more graphics, new colors and bolder fonts...Advanstar Communications' Pest Control was redesigned as of its October issue and features five new sections: industry trends, business, technology, community and resources...Asian Sources Electronic Components from Global Sources Ltd. introduced a redesigned issue in October. It now has a tabloid format and carries 30 percent more editorial content...Brandweek from VNU Business Media launched a redesign as of its October issue. It includes the new departments "Newsfront" and "Research and Insight" and has expanded coverage of strategies and promotions...The Taunton Press' Fine Homebuilding was redesigned as of the October/November issue. Changes include cover lines on the front cover, a new logo and a more interactive table of contents...G J USA Publishing's Fitness was redesigned as of its December issue, featuring new editorial, including new sections such as "30 Second Solutions" and "Time-Saving Workout"...

FOLDING Book from West Egg Communications LLC and Barnes & Noble ceased publication with its November/December issue...VNU Business Media will close Technology Marketing in January, the content of which will be folded into Brandweek.

BRAND EXTENSIONS In October, Family Circle from G J USA Publishing partnered with The Food Network to begin airing "Good Food Fast with Family Circle" on Sundays. The half-hour TV program features quick and easy recipes from the magazine's "Good Food Fast" column...Better Homes and Gardens from Meredith Corp. released a special "Thanksgiving Survival Guide" in conjunction with the magazine's online "100 Days of Holidays" theme. The guide offers highlights from the Web site on topics ranging from preparing a low-carb Thanksgiving meal to assessing your fitness as a Thanksgiving host...McGraw-Hill's BusinessWeek's Web site has partnered with IndustryBrains to provide advertising on businessweek.com. Ads will appear under the header BusinessWeek Mall and advertisers will be able to bid on ad placement via an online auction bidding system...CMP Media's Electronics Group launched eeProductCenter in October, a Web site located at www.eeproductcenter.com. The site will feature new product announcements and product reviews for users, who are involved in electronics and circuitry. It replaced the company's ChipCenter Web site...Ziff Davis Media has launched www.1UP.com, a site for video and computer game enthusiasts looking for tips, game reviews and tricks...Institutional Investor has relaunched its portal web site, www.InstitutionalInvestor.com, in an effort to provide more high-end financial business information and analysis. The site now features content from the publishers' various publications, a new paid premium area, and feeds from selected partners... Interweave Press' Beadwork Magazine released a newsstand-only title in November, Beadwork Magazine Presents: Stringing, highlighting 100 do-it-yourself jewelry projects using strung beads. The publisher will release its second newsstand-only issue, Beadwork Magazine Presents: Bead Show 2004, in March, which will contain resource directories of bead societies, fiberart galleries and a calendar of national and international bead shows...U.S. News & World Report and Zinio Systems, Inc. delivered the first electronic version of U.S. News & World Report with the December 1 issue. The digital edition of the weekly magazine allows readers to zoom, search, highlight and make electronic notations in the magazine...In November, PC Magazine from Ziff Davis Media launched "Technology Confidence Index," a new quarterly consumer and business technology survey. Results of the first survey, which surveyed more than 4,700 subscribers in September and October, indicated that business and consumer technology spending in 2004 will exceed spending in 2003.
