It launched in early January with a March/April issue. Frequency: bimonthly. Circulation: 98,000 (40,000 subscribers; 58,000 newsstand copies at Barnes & Noble and Borders bookstores). Cover price: $4.95. Subscription price: $24.95...GCN Publishing's Aviator's Guide takes a family-oriented approach to flying in private planes. It offers tips for flying with children and pets, and includes articles on destinations accessible by private plane. Launched with a January/February issue, the title has both paid and qualified, controlled circulation (pilots who own planes). Frequency: bimonthly. Circulation: 100,000. Cover price: $4.95. Subscription price: $14.95. August: March Publications LLC's March will cover general-interest subjects such as books, art, film, poetry and society for a young and "hip" literary audience. Bloomberg Personal Finance ceased publication with its February issue. The title had a circulation of 410,303 and covered finance for personal investors...CMP Media LLC shuttered Internet-technology publication New Architect with its March issue. Circulation was 140,000 controlled.
* REDESIGNS/RELAUNCHES
Hachette Filipacchi Media U.S.'s Premiere debuted a redesign with its February issue, including a larger format (9" x 10 7/8"), increased DVD coverage and reporting of movie release dates. The redesign coincided with rate base and frequency decreases (rate base was reduced from 600,000 to 500,000; frequency from 12 to 10 annual issues) and a cover-price increase (from $3.50 to $3.99).
* RATE BASE/FREQUENCY CHANGES
In January, Wenner Media's Us Weekly increased its rate base from 950,000 to 1,050,000, and upped its frequency to 46 issues, from 40...Bauer Publishing's In Touch Weekly, which launched in October, will raise its rate base from 250,000 to 350,000 with its April 14 issue...IDG Games Media Group's video game magazine Code Vault increased its frequency from bimonthly to monthly as of January.
* BRAND EXTENSIONS/PROMOTIONS
Maxim is launching a series of quarterly, newsstand-only special editions. Maxim Presents: Movies, a review of summer-movie releases, will kick off the series in May. Each edition will guarantee a rate base of 250,000...Vogue aired the first of a series of five one-hour television programs in January. The shows, which cover emerging fashion trends, will be broadcast periodically throughout 2003. In conjunction with the TV specials, the magazine is running 10-page advertorials. Page rate: $90,000...Forbes began delivering business and investment news directly to its subscribers' digital assistants and cell phones in January. The service, Forbes.com Wireless, costs $4.99 per month, and targets busy executives. Forbes has a revenue-sharing agreement with its 13 cellular service provider partners, who are advertising the program on their Web sites...People Weekly published its fourth regional split-run cover with its February 10 issue. Copies distributed in the Southeastern and Central United States - representing about 27 percent of the magazine's total national distribution - carried a cover featuring an interview with the widow of race car driver Dale Earnhardt. The rest of the issues carried a cover that focused on a feature about celebrities regaining their figures after childbirth. Editorial content in the editions was identical...Reader's Digest has launched ChangeOne.com, a paid-only, healthy-living Web site run by RD's health editor. The service, launched in conjunction with the book "ChangeOne: The Breakthrough 12-Week Eating Plan: Lose Weight Simply, Safely and Forever," costs $9.95 a month and can be personalized...Time and InStyle have partnered to co-publish a biannual fashion spin-off, Style & Design. Launched in February, the title is positioned between a trade and consumer fashion publication. The first issue had an international circulation of 1.34 million: 600,000 copies were distributed to the wealthiest U.S. subscribers of Time and InStyle, 500,000 in Europe and 240,000 in Asia.
