REDESIGNS/RELAUNCHES
In February, Congressional Quarterly Inc.'s CQ Daily Monitor relaunched as CQ Today: The Legislative News-Daily. The publication also introduced a redesign, with an easy-to-follow format that provides greater integration with online tracking service CQ.com...In March, Alternative Medicine, from AlternativeMedicine.com, Inc., relaunched with a redesign and new editorial to attract more mainstream readers. In addition, the publication increased its frequency from bimonthly to nine times per year...Crain Communications's Electronic Media relaunched in March as TelevisionWeek with expanded editorial coverage of production and marketing in the television industry...The New Republic unveiled a more contemporary design in March, with bolder typefaces and graphics...Movieline will change its name to Movieline's Hollywood Life and debut a larger format (9" x 10 7/8") with its May issue.
BRAND EXTENSIONS/PROMOTIONS
Meredith Corp.'s Better Homes and Gardens has partnered with Country Music Television and Lowes Home Improvement Warehouse for a 13-episode, weekly television series starting in April. The series will feature popular country music stars redecorating a Nashville, TN-area 3,600 square-foot home, using products from Lowes. BH&G will provide design input and feature a behind-the-scenes, tune-in guide in its May issue. One CMT viewer will be selected to become the house's new owner. In addition, Meredith plans to publish four books over the next two years based on its television network, Home & Garden Television. The books will focus on home design, decor, landscaping and gardening. The first book, "HGTV Before and After Decorating," will be released this fall...Time Inc.'s Sports Illustrated for Kids has partnered with the Kellogg Company to produce three multi-sport, custom publications in 2003. The publications, which focus on the importance of healthy eating and setting goals, are free to shoppers in select grocery store chains in Los Angeles and New York, if they purchase two boxes of Kelloggs cereal. The first - Who Rules? The Best in Almost Everything in Sports - debuted in January, with a separate bilingual version for distribution in Hispanic communities. The second - Goal Getters and Setters: The Greatest African-American Athletes, Past and Present - was published in February in conjunction with Black History Month... Primedia Inc. and Express Publications Pty Ltd., an Australian crafts magazine publisher, have partnered to publish an Australian edition of Primedia's Creating Keepsakes. With a circulation of 21,000, the first issue appeared in March...International Data Group launched Bio-IT Japan in March, which will provide information on medical technology, drug delivery and drug discovery and development to Japanese life-sciences professionals. The quarterly has a controlled circulation of 10,000. Also in March, IDG launched Zoom in the Netherlands for consumers interested in buying or using digital or video cameras. The bimonthly has a circulation of 40,000 and a cover price of about $4.85... VNU's Billboard Music Group has partnered with PromoSquad, a song-research company that predicts the success of new music releases. The agreement will entitle VNU Business Media titles, including Billboard and Airplay Monitor, to publish data from PromoSquad. Using this data, Airplay Monitor plans to introduce HitPredictor, a weekly listing that gauges the potential radio play of new songs. Likewise, Billboard will develop a new chart that measures consumer interest in songs that appear on the "Billboard Hot 100"...Reed Business Information Media Group has formed a new business unit, RBI Press, to publish books for the school, library and business markets.
