Healthcare Purchasing News, May, 2004

Labor Secretary Elaine Chao awarded two grants totaling $5.4 million to fund nurse training programs, the latest grants to be awarded under the Labor Department's $24.4 million initiative to help train healthcare workers. The new awards are a $4 million grant to HCA to address shortages in critical nursing disciplines in Texas and Florida, and a $1.4 million grant to Florida International University School of Nursing to retrain 100 unemployed and underemployed foreign educated physicians to become registered nurses in the U.S.

The grants are part of the administration's High Growth Job Training Initiative.
