Vic's World Class Market
Store Equipment & Design, Jan, 2000
* About five years ago, Vic's World Class Market opened its first in-store restaurant, overlooking its Novi, Mich., supermarket. This summer, the 6,000-square-foot, full-service operation reopened as the New York-style Market Deli, no longer serving dinner, but made-to-order sandwiches, soups and salads. Many preorder by fax or the Internet.
"We're seeing a big increase in business, and a much warmer reception," said Steve Padley, director of catering and banquets. Lunch customers can get fresh sandwiches in about six minutes, and the lunch business has helped increase sales of gourmet grab-and-go dinner entrees, he said.
