Pos Help For Disabled Shoppers
Store Equipment & Design, June, 2000
The IC eCommerce from U.S. NetCom helps blind or visually impaired shoppers feel more at ease at the checkout, particularly when they pay by ATM card or credit card. The unit, which has a key pad with a "dotted" center key and raised ridges, allows blind shoppers to key in their PIN, rather than saying it out loud.
To assure visually impaired shoppers they're not being overcharged, a large screen with high-contrast backlighting lets them see transaction information, while a built-in speaker provides verbal confirmation. Special mobility features allow those in wheelchairs to reach the device more easily.
