National agencies remap Europe

GPS World, June, 2004

EuroGeographics, the association of European national mapping agencies based in Marnela-Vallee, France, has launched new versions of its pan-European digital topographic datasets SABE and EuroGlobalMap.

Both datasets are harmonized according to common specifications, are seamless (without gaps on the borders), and were produced using official national databases.

The SABE (Seamless Administrative Boundaries of Europe) dataset has been on the market for more then ten years. It is used for statistical and environmental analysis, market survey, banking, geolocation, and other versions. The update includes portions of Eastern Europe, Greenland, and Atlantic islands, among other features.

EuroGlobalMap v1.1 is a digital topographic dataset at 1:1 million scale, containing six themes: administrative boundaries, hydrography, transport, settlements, elevation, and geographical names.

Both products are available through EuroGeographics, the national mapping agencies, and resellers. For download samples and on-line ordering, see www.eurogeographics.org.
