ERI inked for miniature AJ

GPS World, June, 2004

Lockheed Martin Integrated Systems Rapid Response (R2) Program Office awarded a multi-year contract to Electro-Radiation Incorporated (ERI) of Fairfield, New Jersey to miniaturize and integrate its GPS anti-jam technology for precision-guided munitions. The U.S. Army RDECOM ARDEC at Picatinny Arsenal provided initial initial $2.4 million funding for the project.

ERI will initiate miniaturization and gun-hardening of its anti-jam modules and interface with the Deeply Integrated-Guidance and Navigation Unit (DI-GNU). ERI's Common Guidance Anti-Jam (CGAJ) module will deliver a multi-jammer protection through the integration of spatial and digital interference-suppression techniques.

Jam Susceptibility. As GPS has become a critical navigation sensor for low-cost precision-guided munitions, its susceptibility to jamming has led to its integration with low-cost inertial-aided navigation (INS) systems for munitions that combine GPS precision updates with INS jamming immunity.

ERI has developed GPS anti-jam technologies such as adaptive polarization filtering, adaptive dynamic spatial filtering, adaptive spectral filtering, and combined spatial spectral filtering to mitigate both narrow-band and wideband GPS jamming threats. The company signaled its intent to provide miniature, low-cost AJ technology to GPS users in the hand-held receiver, ground vehicle, and airborne segments as well.
