Shipboard ID system

GPS World, August, 2001

The MX 420 is a fully integrated GPS/DGPS/AIS (Automatic Identification Systems) shipboard system with a combined control and display unit that meets IMO carriage requirements, according to Leica Geosystems. Optionally, the MX 420 AIS can be interfaced with an already installed GPS or DOPS receiver.

The AIS transponder module in the MX 420 system was designed and developed by SAAB Transponder Tech. All GPS, DGPS, and AIS functions are controlled at the display and control unit, which also collects input from the ship's gyrocompass, speed log, and other sensors before organizing the data for transmission through the AIS transponder. AIS data from all stations is also displayed. Leica Geosystems Inc., Houston, Texas, USA.
