ESRI and Trimble have created a Mobile Government Grant Series for U.S. government agencies working with GIS and GPS technologies.

Two programs offer hardware, software and training, with 10 planning grant packages for state or local governments and 10 more homeland security packages slated for federal, state and local government disciplines. Application deadline is September 17,2004. Visit www.esri.com/grants.> The companies also offer 10 downloadable public domain applications for governmental adoption of GIS and GPS tools, at www.esri.com/arcpad/about/templates.html.> GPS Analyst. Trimble released the GPS Analyst software extension to ESRI's ArcGIS application. It enables direct processing of GPS data inside ArcGIS for creation, display and management of GIS information, enhancing field-to-office work-flow by eliminating file conversions. Analyst allows GPS data to be stored directly in geodatabases, and overlaid and analyzed with other GIS layers. It also differentially corrects GPS data in ArcGIS, enhancing the accuracy of GPS positioning data from 10 meters to 50 centimeters, depending on the GPS receiver and environment.
