Laipac expands LBS product lines

Laipac Technology Inc., a Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada-based company established in 1999, has released several new products for location-based services (LBS). Its Starfinder automatic vehicle location products connect over GSM/GPRS/CDMA and satellite networks, and incorporate Laipac's TF-30 or UV-40 GPS receivers, with reported 9-foot accuracy using WAAS or EGNOS corrections, 12-meter accuracy otherwise. Laipac also offers control center software products for fleet management that display MapPoint, MapInfo, AutoCAD and ArcView formats.

Locator. The Laipac S-911 Personal Locator enables users to call and report current positions to family and friends and/or authorities for emergency assistance. The portable unit measures 68 X 40 X 18 millimeters, and incorporates a SiRF III chipset. The S-911 provides buttons for calling 911, playing a pre-recorded message and delivering current GPS position and timestamp; placing a voice call to a monitoring center or family/friend; and sending an SMS text message with current position and speed, timestamp, and emergency status to five pre-designated cell phone numbers. S-911 also works as a tracking tag monitoring people or assets.
