Mobile GIS software

GPS World, Sept, 2004

ESRI's ArcPad software for mobile GIS and field mapping applications supports a multilayer environment with an industry-standard vector map and raster image display that includes aerial photographs and satellite imagery. The software provides mapping, GIS and GPS integration to field users via handheld and mobile devices, enabling them to import data from the Internet via wireless technology. The product builds on existing mapping and GIS software and databases so users are not required to convert data to portable formats. ArcPad supports ESRI shapefiles (SHP), MrSID by LizardTech, Microsoft Windows bitmap, JPEG and Arc IMSImage Services via the Internet. ESRI, Redlands, California.
