King cocktail - Currents

Cheers, Nov-Dec, 2002

It took a couple of years, but this time, noted mixologist Dale DeGroff grabbed the gold cup in the Bacardi Martini Grand Prix international cocktail competition. The 37-year-old event, organized by Bacardi and the International Bartenders Guild, took place in Aosta Valley, Italy, with 81 competitors from 26 countries.

Out of file events (freestyle, fancy cocktail, millennium cocktail, junior competition and team competition), DeGroff competed in two and took a silver medal as well as the winner's cup. Here's the winning recipe in the fancy cocktail competition:

Prestige

1 oz. Bacardi 8
1/4 Martini & Rossi Extra Dry Vermouth
1/4 oz. fresh lime juice
3/4 oz. Velvet Falernum
1 oz. pineapple juice

Shake with ice and strain into a chilled double cocktail glass. Decorate
with pineapple wedge and lime peel garnish.
