Boat U.S. license plate debuts - At your Service

Boat/US Magazine, Jan, 2003

Residents of the Commonwealth of Virginia are the first to get a specialty license plate featuring the BoatU.S. logo "floating" on a sea of light blue waves.

The "Communiplate," as it's known in Virginia, is designed to let members of organizations show their loyalty, pride and support of their organization. Depending on the success of the program in Virginia, BoatU.S. may engage other states to develop the logo embossed plate.

In the meantime, BoatU.S. residents of Virginia can be among the first to demonstrate their spirit by registering for the new plate at BoatUS.com/licenseplate.

New Bounty Gifts

We know that some of our best members come from word of mouth, and we'd like to thank the many members who help sign up friends or family with BoatU.S. As a gesture of our appreciation, you'll be able to select one of three new gifts: a navy blue and white trim BoatU.S. baseball cap; a boating duffel bag; or, a travel kit.

Here's how it's done. When your friend signs up by calling 800-395-2628 or by visiting BoatUS.com, have them give us your name, and if possible, your member number. We'll then contact you to offer you the choice of gift.

BoatU.S. formalized its longtime support of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary in August when an agreement between the two groups was signed during the Auxiliary's National Conference in Orlando, FL. The Strategic Alliance for Boating Safety between the Auxiliary and BoatU.S. involves an action plan for mutual support of each group's boating safety efforts. Shown at the signing ceremony, above right, are former National Commodore Viggo Bertelsen, and Ruth Wood, director of the BoatU.S. Foundation for Boating Safety and Clean Water.

At the same conference, the BoatU.S. Best Flotilla in the Nation award went to Flotilla 15-4 of the 7th District in Homosassa, FL. Shown here is Division Captain Mary Kenneth and District Commodore Mary Larsen.
