Famous fun - Tangled Line

Boat/US Magazine, May, 2003

If they aren't playing cowboy and Indians, kids are often fond of playing pirate. Now they can play for real at a unique summer camp aboard the storied 61-foot privateer, Fame.

At the new SchoonerFame summer camp in Salem, MA, kids 8 to 12 can learn to sail aboard the replica of Fame, and learn about the lives of fishermen, traders and privateers of the 1800s who helped to make Salem a hub of world shipping. With the help of Salem Parks and Recreation Dept., BoatU.S. member and Fame Capt. Mike Rutstein, created the three-week summer camp. The sessions are June 16-20, June 23-27, and July 14-18, and the cost is $195 per camper.

Construction of the 61-foot replica Fame began last year with Rutstein heading up the project. Due to launch this month, Fame was notorious for her feats in the War of 1812, capturing enemy ships twice her size. For more information on the camp or on Fame, visit www.SchoonerFame.com or call 978-729-7600.
