Evinrude/Johnson - Who Makes What

Once the premier line of now-bankrupt OMC, re-designed Evinrude and Johnson outboards are now made by Bombardier Motor Corp., the Canadians conglomerate best-known for building high speed trains, executive aircraft, snowmobiles and Sea-Doo PWCs. Evinrude two-strokes are fueled by high-pressure -- 500 psi -- FICHT Ram Injection systems that jets fuel into the cylinders by means of a mechanical "plunger." V-6 engines range from 135 hp up to 250 hp, V-4s are available from 75 hp up to 115 hp. Johnson carbureted two-strokes are available from 25 hp up so 175 hp. Sample engine weights (and retail prices) are 362 lbs. for the 75-hp V-4 Evinrude ($8,500), 410 lbs. for the 150-hp V-6 Evinrude ($13,000) and 518 lbs. for the 250-hp V-6 Evinrude ($19,000).

Bombardier also produces four-stroke Johnson outboards, ranging from 40 hp to 70 hp. These feature multi-port sequential fuel injection that meters fuel to each cylinder noun as-needed cylinder-to-cylinder basis. Weight ranges are 240 lbs. fur the 40-hp 3-cylinder Johnson and 359 lbs. fur the 70-hp Johnson.
