National Marina Day Aug. 9 - BoatU.S. Reports

Boat/US Magazine, July, 2003

With about a month to go, marinas coast-to-coast are busy planning special events for Marina Day 2003 to be held on August 9. Organized by the Marina Operators Association of America and sponsored by Boat U.S. Cooperating Marinas and others, the day will celebrate the role marina's play in providing access, encouraging responsible use of the waterways, and generating economic activity.

By offering a series of on-site events, from open houses and customer appreciation days to parties with live music and activities for children, Boat U.S. hopes boaters will inquire about their own marina's plans now and encourage their facility to participate on this important day.

"Local communities, both citizens and government, need to be aware of the role marinas play in the community," said Jim Schofield of Boat U.S. Cooperating Marinas. "And getting everyone down to the docks, both boaters and non-boaters alike, is an important step."
