Sea Scout Season

Boat/US Magazine, Nov, 2001

This past season was a busy time for BoatU.S. and Sea Scouting. In July, BoatU.S. Chairman Richard Schwartz was honored during Sea Scout flag raising ceremonies at the national Boy Scout Jamboree in Virginia. National Commodore Jimmie Homburg, thanked Schwartz for the Associa-tion's commitment to tomorrow's boaters and presented him with a Sea Scout flag.

In August, three Sea Scouts got to sail on historic racing boats during the America's Cup Jubilee at Cowes on England's Isle of Wight, thanks to BoatU.S. member and 1992 America's Cup winner Bill Koch. Ann Simiele of Cleveland, OH, and Robert Dickerson of West Palm Beach, FL, worked on one of chase boats and Ornel Cotera of Miami, FL, earned a crew slot on Il Moro de Venezia during racing.

In September, BSA Sea Scouting/Venturing Director Charles Holmes briefed the BoatU.S. National Advisory Council on new partnership projects with BoatU.S. during his first meeting as a member of the Council. Sea Scouting will mark its 90th year in 2002.
