World longest PWC ride - Tangled Line

Boat/US Magazine, Nov, 2002

Waterbike history was made this summer by a Spanish aristocrat who fulfilled his dream of crossing the Atlantic Ocean on a personal watercraft. Departing from Rome on February 23, Alvaro de Marichalar y Saenz de Tejada crossed 8,000 miles of ocean in 117 days aboard his SeaDoo watercraft, and landed in Miami Beach on June 22. This is the first time such a feat has been accomplished.

Marichalar, son of Spain's Countess de Ripalda, averaged about 12 hours a day navigating the vast and unpredictable Atlantic, and slept nights aboard an accompanying support boat. Although the team stopped in 15 ports along the journey and met with many supporters, Marichalar never set foot on solid ground until he reached his U.S. destination. The quest was not only to fulfill a longtime personal dream, but also to raise awareness of drug addiction. To find out more about his adventures, log on to www.ocean2002.com
