High-speed lines will double traffic capacity: Italy's developing mixed-traffic high-speed network is central to the objective to transform the national railway into a high-capacity network - Italy: High Speed

International Railway Journal, Dec, 2002 by Mike Knutton

The rest of the proposed network is still at the planning stage. The 142km Milan-Verona section is at the drafting stage. The 24km Padua-Mestre section of the 112km Verona-Venice section has been approved. The remainder, which will run almost entirely alongside the existing line, is at the drafting stage. The line from Milan to Venice is due to open in 2010.

The first section of the connection from Genoa to Milan, between Genoa and Novi Ligure is at the final drafting stage and TAV hopes to start work in 2004. "There are several route options between Novi Ligure and Milan but we hope to have the line completed by 2010," Nicci said.
