Iron Rhine - freight route - Brief Article
International Railway Journal, May, 2000
Transport ministers in the Netherlands and Belgium have agreed to temporarily re-open the Iron Rhine freight route, linking Antwerp, Belgium, to the German Ruhr region. This is despite protests from Dutch environmentalists that the line crosses a nature reserve near Roermond and even though an environmental impact report will not be completed until 2001.
Part of the line has been disused since 1991.
